Window of Opportunity

Window of Opportunity

My sister called me the other day from South Carolina, “Is a five-hour window for showing my house normal?” No.

What is the “normal” time frame that agents request when scheduling appointments? Part of that depends on local custom. For example in Maryland it is customary give a 2-hour window, in Massachusetts a 30-minute window. But 5 hours? That’s a little extreme (even in South Carolina where life is a bit more relaxed).

While having a 30-minute window for showings may sound great to the seller, please understand that agents may be running behind or early, depending on their clients and the other showings they have scheduled for the day. So if your home is scheduled to be shown from 1:30-2:00 in the afternoon, please be prepared that the buyers may show up as early as 1:00, or possibly even a little after 2:00. If the buyers do show up early or late, try to accommodate them by letting them in the house, and go take a walk around the block to give them space. And thank you for being understanding.
